Ballistic protection levels indicate which threats your armored vehicle will stop. American Armoring builds to international standards: CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation), NIJ (National Institute of Justice), and STANAG (NATO standardization agreement). Every armor protection level we offer is independently tested against real ballistic threats – from handguns to armor-piercing rifles.
Your threat environment determines which bulletproof car level makes sense. Armor levels A1 to A3 handle standard handgun calibers: .38 Special, 9mm, and .357 Magnum. A4 through A6 armor ratings stop more serious threats – shotguns, high-powered handguns, and AK-47 rounds. A6 is what most civilian clients choose because it gives comprehensive armored vehicle protection without excessive weight. A7 through A9 address assault rifle threats like 5.56mm NATO and 7.62x51mm. The top bulletproof levels – A10 through A12 – defend against armor-piercing rounds and .50 BMG, which military contracts and heads of state require.
Most civilian clients choose protection levels between A4 and A9, as they cover real-world threats. Government agencies and security firms working in conflict zones need A12 and higher for armor-piercing rifle protection. Our ballistic table below shows weapon types matched to NIJ, CEN, STANAG, and UL protection standards.
